Howe Park Shooting Results in 4 People Shot in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade

Law enforcement in Sacramento are examining a gunfire incident that took place Saturday evening at the Howe Community Park area just as law enforcement were breaking up a large unauthorized gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals.

Background

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first called to the Arden-Arcade park just after 6:30 Saturday evening after being notified of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Following that, a second caller reported describing a reported physical confrontation occurring near the park.

Aerial units flew over the park but reported no active disturbance. Despite this, it was evident that several hundred individuals had gathered without authorization without authorization.

The Dispersal and Shooting

Responding units moved to clear the area by encircling the gathering and issuing commands over loudspeakers commanding the hundreds present to disperse at once. Nearly 15 minutes were spent for attendees to disperse.

At the height of the dispersal effort that between 20 and 25 rounds were discharged. The sudden gunfire triggered a stampede. Deputies immediately began searching for victims.

Four People Shot

Altogether, four individuals were found to have been shot. Those injured — comprising three men and one woman all reportedly in their twenties — were airlifted or driven to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff reported that two had critical injury classifications, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one suffered minor injuries. In a positive development, all four victims survived and were stable.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District assisted at the location and helped triage those who had been shot before they were taken to the hospital.

Physical Evidence

The center of the incident seemed to have happened on click here Cottage Way next to the local Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Detectives found additional spent rounds along Cottage Way. Bullet holes were also found in the iron perimeter fence surrounding the Home Depot store. The physical evidence suggested that a shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from the Cottage Way area in the direction of the Home Depot store. That Home Depot location was placed on lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. Crime scene personnel remained on scene throughout the night.

Suspect Information

Reports confirmed through law enforcement radio communications established that a vehicle identified as a Kia had been stopped in nearby Solano County. Four suspects were taken into custody. Sacramento law enforcement were heading to pick up the four detainees to transport the detainees for processing in Sacramento County. Video evidence showed that two individuals had fired weapons.
